Alderton is a small English village and civil parish about 9 miles (14 km) south of Northampton, and 10 miles (16 km) north of Milton Keynes, along a road between the A5 and A508 main roads in the southwest and northeast respectively. The nearest large town is Towcester, about 3 miles (5 km) north. The village is famous for the remains of an English Heritage Scheduled Ancient Monument, a Norman Castle, known locally as "The Mount".
The Mount is open to the public; however, there is very little parking in Alderton other than on the main road. Take care climbing the steep steps up to the top of the ringworks and on the steep slopes at the sides. Please respect the privacy of the adjoining properties.
Alderton is on the southern ridge of the valley of the River Tove which flows east between the village and Stoke Bruerne to the north. Stoke Bruerne church and Stoke Park Pavilions are clearly visible in the distance.
The village has a population of around 109 people. The parish church is dedicated to St Margaret of Antioch and dates back to the 12th century. There is also a village hall and a primary school.
Alderton is a popular place to live for people who commute to Northampton, Milton Keynes or other nearby towns. It is also a popular destination for walkers and cyclists.
